My son's car only had a transmission cooler line corrode/rot out due to salt/brine BUT seeing how you're getting a manual., you won't have that problem.Ĭurious as to the climate this Vibe you'll be getting came from and where will it be primarily driven? Update your profile for us. not tread wear) and a new battery (due to it not being started/driven more regularly). Four oil changes, one set of new tires (due to dryrot.

Getting back to specifics, the 5-speed manual Vibe, I have had ZERO repairs so far. A quick look under our hoods and you'll clearly see the differences Thus why the mileage is so low My son's on the other hand has been outdoors the entire time and has seen EVERY winter we've had so far. Mine has been garaged since new and has seen VERY little salt/brine over the winters due to me having a commercial service vehicle truck. Mine (the red one) is the 5-soeed manual and sitting at just 36k miles, and my son's (the blue one) is an auto and around 150k miles. First off, I have TWO 2009 Vibe Gt's in my fleet. That's great news! I'll give you what little advice I can on the few issues known to these cars. I’m picking up an ‘09 Vibe GT 2.4 liter 5 speed manual today! Any surprises to watch for? It has 99k on the ODO. I'll stop here because I know there are some readers who have a two sentence span of attention, as was demonstrated to me in another thread. I obviously chose the Corolla-Vibe due to the 30-something mpg I get on a daily basis. Nonetheless, I would like to experience ANYTHING other than the pathetic Toyota 4 speed transmission which is about 10 years out of date. For me, I wouldn't want to be driving a small vehicle (Vibe) with no rear seat leg room and getting low 20's gas mileage. Also: by Pat Goss' own words: "anything under 2 quarts per oil change is still within specifications." As such, my bad mouthing of toyota seals probably is unwarranted. So the oil consumption will be an issue no matter what engine you choose. All I can say is that Toyota seals seem to be crap and every corolla engine I have ever owned (3) drink oil like Dean Martin (R.I.P.) drinks whiskey. The former comment about the oil consumption with the camry engine may be correct.

I have the Corolla engine, and for the most part, am glad I have it. Even though we are down to 3 dollars a gallon, people are still unhappy about the crappy gas mileage they get with the camry engine mated to the Vibe and seem to be in a hurry to dump those cars. I think it is because of the poor(er) gas mileage. I too have noticed that the camry engine Vibes are the only ones that seem to be offered at a reasonable price. I troll the craigslist pages every day just in case one of the ladies in my house decides to destroy what they are currently driving. Turned out to be the tires making most of the noise from getting to wear bars and at least three plugs from punctures.Pilar: your comment about the 2.4 being the only one you can find at a good price is dead on. There was still pad left, but gave national brake chain benefit of doubt. Light grooves in rotors, some life left on pads. Intermittent grinding/rumbling noise coming to stop. Pontiac Vibe in Iowa, United States May 2011 - Jun 2022 Turned out to be a bad driver's side front wheel bearing. The car had a "wooshing" noise from driver's side front area. Pontiac Vibe in Texas, United States Feb 2012 - Jul 2022 Pontiac Vibe in Georgia, United States Oct 2013 - Nov 2014įew seconds loud engine rattle on start up after setting an hour or so more so after cold engine. Pontiac Vibe in Maryland, United States - Mar 2010Īdjusted driver's window to fix rattle when fully rolled up. Decide to change both rear wheel bearings and hub assemblies.

Wheel bearing on the rear drivers side noisy. I supplied most of the brake parts, total cost was $1200. Replaced backing plates and hub bearings as well, couldn't separate hubs from backing plates as they were rusted. Live in QC, salt used here by the ton during winter. Rear brake backing plates rusted completely.

Replaced calipers, rotors, pads all 4 wheels, fronts still OK though, and replaced/bled brake fluid. Updated starter motor cranks much faster and problem has been solved. Replaced the starter with an updated new (not rebuild) starter from Denso, Toyota part number 28100-0T051 or GM part number 19205422 purchased from Amazon and installed by mechanic. Original starter release gear would stick causing a grinding noise in very cold winter starts. Replaced just brake pads and cleaned re-lubed all slide pins. Was told it's a common problem on these cars, rear brakes do not do much work in daily driving. Brake pad stuck in rear calpier, not moving freely. Pontiac Vibe in Quebec, Canada Feb 2012 - Jun 2022 A/C vent was clogged - dealer unclogged it and dried out the mat. Pontiac Vibe in Michigan, United States May 2011 - Jun 2021
